The Great Wall is a fresh take on Euro / Worker placement type of Board Games. In the game, players take the roles of generals of an ancient Chinese empire who lead the defense against ruthless hordes. Players will gather allied advisors, manage their workers, recruit armies and raise and defend the Great Wall! As the game progresses, you’ll frequently want to negotiate and interact with other players but make no mistake – there can be only one winner!
MEDIEVAL FANTASY BOARD GAME: The Great Wall is a fantasy board game inspired by the history of the Great Wall of China, Song Dynasty, and Genghis Khan’s conquests. Players take the role of Generals defending the Wall against the Mongol Horde. The game is played over a series of turns called Years, each divided into 4 parts called seasons.
STRATEGY BOARD GAME: Players will keep watch over ancient clans in China trying to defend against invading Mongolian hordes and build a Great Wall. At the same time as every player will wish to win, they also want to once in a while cooperate to defend against the hordes. Each clan will be asymmetric through its chosen Leader and this asymmetry will increase as the game progresses.
TACTICAL WARGAME: In Spring, new barbaric hordes invade the fields in front of the Great Wall and prepare to launch their assault. In Summer, generals prepare for the assault and mobilise their forces. In Fall, players take their turns playing Command cards to gain quite a lot of benefits. In Winter, the last layer of Defense is activated and the hordes try to assault the Walls.
COMPETITIVE GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE: Throughout the course of the game, players will create their own unique engines based on their clan strength as well as interact with other players Throughout all phases of the game, trying to get the most honour points, which can be gained in a large number of different ways. At the end of the game, the player with the most Honour wins.
NUMBER OF PLAYERS AND AVERAGE PLAYTIME: This competitive strategy game for adults and teens can be played with 1 to 4 players and is suitable for ages 14 and older. The average playtime is 120 to 180 minutes.
